When Should Your Child Stay Home from School?

  • If your child is suspected of having or has a contagious illness such as; chicken pox, strep throat, the flu, or whooping cough.
  • If your child has had a fever within the past 24 hours.
  • If your child is vomiting or has diarrhea.
  • If your child has red/pink eyes or has drainage from the eyes
  • If your child has head lice. The child needs to be seen by the school nurse BEFORE returning to school. Screenings done as needed.
  • If your child has a frequent cough or wheeze.
  • Your child may return to school when they are fever, vomiting and diarrhea free for 24 hours without using fever reducing medication.


  • If your child is absent, please call the school in the morning.
  • If your child is out of school for an extended period of time (3 consecutive days) and/or is under the care of a physician, please notify your child’s school nurse.
  • If your child is absent for five (5) consecutive days, a physician’s note is required upon returning to school.
